Report on Starfield Mods on August 31, 2023

The release date has arrived for Starfield and we can take a look at the first couple of mods that have been released in the couple hours after the beginning of early access.

The most popular mod currently is a Bethesda Archive Extractor by hexabit. Essentially this is for extracting files from the Starfield game files. Something rather technical and mostly for the geeks out there.

The second most popular mod at the moment is the Starfield Upscaler by PureDark, which is a mod that works with graphical settings by replacing FSR2 with DLSS or XeSS.

One of my favorites right now is moving the XP bar on the interface by Johnny3TearsUxA. While I am not bothered by the sight of the XP bar being at the center of the screen, I am happy that people are trying to already improve this game's quality of life settings for a variety of players.

Another mention is the Quantum Reshade by HelloImCrimson, which is another graphics mod that enhances the game.

Most importantly, there is a mod that called Eli's Starfield Modders Resources which is a placeholder by a twitch streamer who is going to be providing many resources for modders of this game.

Special Mention: While some may not care about this, a modder by the name of E3roKK is making a mod that optimizes the game called Starfield Performance Optimizations

As we can see, most of these mods have to deal with things that are easily manipulable by changing readme files and going into the files of the game. We still do not have any mods that are about voice actors or making every NPC look like an anime character.

Currently, there are hardly any mods that are adding content to the game. That will come later and probably be in the next couple of months before we start seeing any substantial content additions to the game by modders.

I am still glad to see that we already have mods available for download. This is great. It shows that the community is highly engaged and ready to start modding the heck out of this game.

Todd Howard has made the right choice in making Starfield one of the most moddable games out there. This will greatly increase the lifespan of this game. Much like Skyrim, Starfield has a bright future ahead of it. While some people may complain about the game being too ambitious, whatever rough edges there are will be smoothed out by the modders in the days and months to come.

Many exciting mods are coming and will greatly improve the game.
