Expectations and Video Games in the current year

Starfield has gotten much criticism by people for being an outdated game that is simply stuck in the past. This hardly is the case, considering that games such as Starfield are not even that common in the video game industry. Starfield's development was a monumental process for Bethesda. It involved the labor of some 500 people who are all highly skilled in programming and other tasks in the making of video games and people have to understand this. This was not an easy task by the people who were making it. However, people continue to attack the game for not being what they wanted and are making videos about how it is a mediocre game. It is not surprising that the game is getting all this criticism. People have been complaining about video games since the beginning of the industry, but the expectations are getting way too high.

We already see this with the release of the GTA VI trailer, and expectations are already going through the roof with so many people who make video games trying to one up Rockstar. Open worlds will become even more important once GTA VI is released in 2025. Considering that GTA V has been so influential for so many years and continues to influence how people think about open world games. Starfield is going to be having a mod creator coming out next year and I hope that helps the game gain more popularity. However, Starfield will be in the shadow of GTA VI just as much as Skyrim was in the shadow of GTA V. The makers of Starfield are going to have to win back the trust of people beyond the core fanbase. There are many players who have simply left the game because it doesn't appeal to them.

Expectations for games has been going up for many years. It is unfortunate that the gaming industry is this way, but we have to be more realistic about how games are made these days. Instead of having unrealistic expectations, we should be trying to enjoy these games.

Many people need to understand this video games are very complex creations that require tons of capital and patience to get right.

What I hope is that people try to set their expectations lower and understand that Starfield is its own game and not a clone of GTA. Only this way can we have a more nuanced discussion about the game.
