Why Jemison is the prefect starting point for Starfield's great adventure

Image
Starfield is many things to many people Starfield is many things to many people. To some, Starfield is evidence of bloat in the development of AAA games, believing that smaller studios can produce incredible games that far surpass what the big guys are capable of doing. To others, Starfield is the culmination of gaming technology that have been advancing over the past 40 to 50 years. I lean towards the latter opinion. There is no better example of Starfield's greatness than the planet Jemison. In many games, Jemison would have been a single planet among a dozen planets. However, Starfield is all about going big and truly embracing the scale that space has to offer. Some people complain about the scale of the game, especially when it comes to the planets. They say the AI generated planet landscapes are boring and lack variety. There isn't a reason to complain about planets in Starfield honestly. We have a variety of planets and environments.  Bethesda's smart decision to i

The Status of Starfield, some thirty days in

Image
Starfield is a game that has currently been out for approximately 30 days. It has been a highly successful game that garnered much attention in the gaming press and non-gaming community at large. This is one of Bethesda's most successful games of all time and I expect that it will continue to do well on Steam and on Xbox. The game has received many accolades though some of the more popular gaming sites like IGN and Gamespot have been harsher on the game. Their criticism are based on the idea that the game is mile wild and inch deep. As I have stated before, Starfield is about the journey not the destination. Some of Gamespot's and IGN's criticism seems to be on the idea that Starfield is essentially a game that is a puddle. It has grand ambitions, but one has to remember that Bethesda has always wanted to expand the game beyond the confines of a narrative-driven environment. Starfield as of right now is game that has currently over 130,000 active players on average. This

Starfield is about the journey not the destination

Image
The beauty in Starfield is the Journey not the Destination. There have been many complaints made about Starfield and how it takes too long to play or truly to get going. Some have criticized the game's beginning as not making sense.  These are valid criticisms. Some reviewers on YouTube and the gaming press have tended to be somewhat divergent in their criticisms, however. The reviewers on the gaming websites have tended to criticize the game for being too big with no character to it. Reviewers on YouTube tend to be more vulgar in their criticisms and tend to focus on the idea that bigger isn't necessarily the thing that we want in our games. It is important to remember that Bethesda wanted to push boundaries and make the biggest game possible. This was what was promised by the developers of No Man Sky and was ultimately a disappointment for many gamers. Bethesda was working hard to make the best game possible but also a game that could actually release unlike games like Star

Starfield is a success: 10 Million players playing this game

Image
Starfield is one of Xbox's greatest successes  It is no surprise that Starfield would be a successful game. Considering the amount of advertising power that placed behind this game, I would say that Bethesda has managed to outdo themselves and release something that will have cultural impact on the video game industry for years to come. It is important remember how important Starfield is to the gaming industry and to Xbox. For the video game industry, Starfield puts confidence back into gamers who were burned after the release of Cyberpunk 2077. It is also important for the Xbox gaming universe as it gives the console an important app that is boosting the sales. Overall, Starfield has been highly successful in more ways than one and that is quite accomplishment by Bethesda, which has been turning out great games year after year.  Starfield vs Baldur's Gate III However, what's more significant is that 10 million people have decided to take the jump and start playing in a gal

Starfield is a single-player MMO

Image
I was thinking about the criticisms of Starfield which boil down to these main points. It is a boring game The game doesn't have interesting characters Starfield has a boring story that does not pull in the player.  The planets are not handcrafted and are boring There is no character to the factions Space travel is clunky and not as interesting as in other space games Combat is not very interesting The skills are not deep enough You don't feel the grandeur of space. Why Starfield is like EverQuest All these concerns are valid, but they are missing something very important. Starfield is essentially a single-player MMO game. It is not a traditional RPG game. It is not a Dragon Age or Mass Effect style game. To be honest, I would rather Starfield stick to what makes it great and not become another clone of those games. Try to be honest here. Starfield is more like EverQuest in 1999 than Mass Effect in 2007. It may sound strange that a single-player game has more in common with a

Is Starfield essentially too big?

Image
There have been many complaints that have been lobbied against Starfield in the days leading up to the release of the game and also after the release. One of these criticisms is that the game is simply too big for players to have any attachment to the setting or the characters. I disagree with this. Starfield is a very challenging game to make. It is a game that took thousands of hours to complete and in spite of this, people are still attacking this game. It is easy to criticize but it is much harder to create anything. Todd Howard had always stated that Starfield was a dream project for him and they managed to accomplish it. Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, which was a buggy mess upon launch, Starfield was largely free from any truly memable moments except for some of the NPCS on New Atlantis and other cities in the game. Todd Howard successfully managed his team to create this incredible game, but no game is without its warts. Starfield size is an important part of the narrative that surrou

Starfield and Performance on Ultra Settings for a Geforce RTX 4050

Image
Starfield on a GeForce RTX 4050 I have been playing Starfield for about two weeks now and I have to say that I am impressed with the game. It isn't prefect but no game is without its warts. This is a game that is made for people like me. I played Tie Fighter back in the early 2000s, and it was one of the best games that I have ever played. I remember after spending time with the controller and my hands would be sweaty and sticky. That's how much I love those games.  This is the game for me. I know that some of the more experienced influencers out there do not like this game for various reasons, but I believe that Starfield is a game that gets better with time. It's a slow burn and one has to really dive deep into the game to really appreciate its story and many complex systems. It is unfortunate that people are having problems with this game, but I think it is one of the greatest games that Bethesda has ever released. In comparison with Skyrim, the world seems more realiz

Starfield and Income Inequality in New Atlantis

Image
The city of New Atlantis, the first port of call for many players in Starfield, is a thing of beauty when one looks at it. The city is immaculately designed in the architectural style of that is so far removed from the experiences of Americans. From the 1920s onward, America culture and the way that we design our buildings is revolving around the automobile. It is not surprising to me that the American way of life is so aesthetically unpleasing to just look at. Compare this with New Atlantis; the city is well appealing to the eye and it clear the developers want to truly want to build the ideal capital of the Space Republic.  However, there is an underbelly to the city of New Atlantis; this place is called the Well. It is a place filled with underground pipes and indoor waterfalls. It is a place of poverty yet resilience and people who are just trying to make by every day at a time. I found this place to be one of the most compelling parts of the game. It shows really the genius of B

A response to the common complaint about Starfield: The Intro

Image
There have been some near 40,000 reviews for the Starfield video game and one of the most common complaints that I have seen about the game is that the intro of the game is not of the quality that we saw in Skyrim and Oblivion.  This criticism is understandable. People have gotten used to overblown, epic plots that involve having to save the world from some incredible danger. In Oblivion, this danger was the Daedric Gates that had been opened by cultists; these same gates had to be closed one by one by an incredible hero. In Skyrim, the player is saved from an execution to become one of the greatest heros to fight back the reemergence of the Dragons that are ravaging the province of Skyrim. These stories follow the traditional hero's journey that was explained by Joseph Campbell. This is easy to understand and universal in many cultures around the globe. However, it may not be the most unique or thought-provoking story out there.  This is where Starfield differs from its predecesso

Starfield already has Star Wars mods on the way

Image
What the Mod looks like on Nexus Mods While I was just surfing the internet, I came across the first Star Wars mod for Starfield. This is a remarkable achievement for the game, allowing for it to gain even more popularity beyond the base game. We should be happy that Star Wars are already being made; It means we will be cosplaying as a Stormtrooper on New Atlantis in no time. This incredible modding ability of Starfield will greatly extend the lifespan of the game, allowing for Bethesda to make a boatload of money on something that already cost $200 million dollars to make. It is important for Starfield to have as many mods as possible to appeal to many audiences. Star Wars is one of the most popular science-fiction franchises out there. Having a mod of Star Wars in Starfield will definitely help increase the popularity of this game.  According to Todd Howard, Starfield's modding tools will officially be released in the coming year. The release of this Creation Kit will give play

Will Starfield tip the balance of power in favor of Xbox?

Image
I am mostly a PC gamer and I do not touch console. Yet the world of consoles continues to interest me greatly. I see that as an important aspect of the video game industry and I believe that it very much in my interest to keep an eye on developments in that part of the medium that I love so much. The Console Wars The console wars really begin with the Atari 2600 and Intellivision. After that we get Nintendo's Home Entertainment System fighting Sega's Master system. Then we get into the newer generations of consoles. Some companies leave the market, like Sega. Others, like Microsoft, are relative newcomers to the medium of video games. Microsoft's Xbox was one of the most successful products of all time. With Microsoft's success and Sega's exit, the video game market is defined by a battle between three giants in the industry. Those giants are Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. They are some of the biggest companies in the video game industry and they compete heavily wi

Starfield and the rise of Indian Aesthetics in Video Gaming

Image
My Character, Helena, wearing a Saree in the game. Starfield and the Rise of the Indian Science Fiction Aesthetic According to the quote by Amit Kalantri, an Indian author, you can't essentially take the family out of the Indian. In a highly individualistic nation such as the United States, such advice should be taken more as we are fraying between too many factions and agendas. One of the greatest strengths of Starfield is also its biggest weakness. It has a breathtaking amount of detail while some players complain that it lacks intimacy. I can understand this criticism quite well. Many of the Elder Scrolls games were smaller in scale, allowing for greater amounts of time to be put towards characters and the ability to empathize with the characters in the game. This is not to say that the game is shallow as a puddle; Starfield has some deep and sophisticated skills systems. According to one player on YouTube, the player would need to get to somewhere in level 300s in order to ge

Todd Howard and the ''upgrade your pc'' comment

Image
Starfield has only been officially out for a single day and the game is already making waves across social media. It is clear that the game has made a great amount of money for Bethesda. Some five million copies have already been sold and the game is selling like hot cakes. This is a testament to the Bethesda's ability to actually ship a game on time instead of being like Star Citizen and milking the funders for the project by having people buy spaceships that do not have any real purpose outside of giving the creators more of your hard-earned for no reason. However, there seems to be some controversy surrounding a comment that Todd Howard made about the game. He stated that people who are having trouble playing the game should upgrade their computer. Now, I understand what he is trying to say. Starfield is a very demanding game and people should not expect miracles when trying to play it on poorly optimized or outdated hardware.  I have a MSI laptop when playing this game and I

Thoughts on the Release of Starfield on September 6th, 2023

Image
Starfield has been officially released to the public and the sales have been brisk. According to several sources, the game managed to achieve more than 250,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. This is very impressive considering that Starfield is a space game with a more niche subject matter than that of Skyrim. Though fans of space exploration may always consider themselves to be in the majority of the population, the truth is that the many people are not that interested in the genre of space sims.  However, as I have stated before, Starfield is probably going to be the most mainstream space game that will ever be released and we are going to have to pay attention to how the game does in sales. It has already gotten 2 million people to pay for the Premium Editions, which is highly impressive and already recoups the cost of the game, which is estimated at 200 million dollars. Bethesda Game Studios has much to proud of with the success of this game. Hopefully their additional content

The interactivity of NPCS in Starfield vs other Bethesda titles

Image
The release of Starfield is quickly approaching and we gamers are going to be having much fun with it. It has become one of the highly anticipated games of the year and I am itching to get my hands on it. This is going to be a game that everyone is going to be talking about for many years just like Skyrim. One of the aspects of the game that really interests me is the Artificial Intelligence in the game. While ChatGPT came too close to release for it to have any real impact on Starfield's development, I am very interested to see what type of interactions we can have with the many NPCs in the game.  The interactions between NPCs are one of those things that I love to see in other games. I will just spend time just walking around, taking a look at the people and machines interacting with each other. It is a true delight to see such technology in action, especially in games such as this. NPCS in Starfield: Mixed results While the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was well known for havin

Is Starfield essentially a walking simulator?

Image
There are many people who seem to be complaining about Starfield, calling it a walking simulator. I believe that this is an incorrect assessment of the game.  Here is a video of why I believe that is incorrect and why people should stop complaining. People should be happy that this game came out. Bethesda spent 10 years to develop this game and I really impressed with their efforts here.

My thoughts on the RTX 4050's performance

Image
I have played through Starfield enough to see what the performance is like on my PC. At first, I believe that I was slightly apprehensive about the performance on my PC, but it is clear that this game is going to work just well on my computer.       My CPU is  a i7-12650H running at 2.30 GHz. I have 16GB RAM. My laptop is a MSI model that has a Geforce RTX 4050. It is considered to be a mid-range video GPU, but it is one of the best workhorses that I have seen. In comparison with other computers that I have owned, the performance is outstanding. It isn't the best video GPU, but it certainly gets the job done and allows for me to play the game.  On High Settings, the game seems to run very well. It runs okaty at Ultra settings, but that seems to be limit for this computer. I am overclocking my graphics, so that's probably why its running well as it is.  Unlike other games like Fallout 4, which was notorious for its loading screens, Starfield seems like it has loading screens t

Report on Starfield Mods on September 1, 2023

Image
Starfield has been out for a day and we now have over 100 mods on the Nexus Mods site. This shows how great this game is for modders already. We have a game that is going to be boon for modders of all kinds and we shall have a game that will have a long lifespan. On what I said yesterday about the mods for the game, we have already seen a huge uptick in the interest in modding for Starfield. Right now, the game's mods are generally focused on performance and usability issues.  Here are some of the standout new Mods that have been released today. 1. More Subtle Level Sounds by Dylan James This particular mod is focused on trying to edit the sounds of the level up mechanic. I like the level mechanic but I can see why people would want to change the sounds in this game.  2. No Enemy Health Bars by CnrJay This mod adds more realism to the game by removing the health bars on the enemies that you face in Starfield. This is probably aimed at more of the hardcore fans of the game who wan
